L’Espingole

The Espingole located in the bay of Cavalaire, near Togo is a Destroyer of the year 1900. Although not being visible any more, the load of 47 and 65 mm grenades is still in it.

There are some specimens buried under the sand of the bow. But be careful : these grenades never were neutralized.

Built in 1900, it participates in several expeditions like in Turkey, in Rochefort and Toulon. On February 4th 1903 by making an operation, it hits the rock of Taillat which is near the surface and runs aground. After its unballasting and a towing towards Cavalaire the Espingole sinks. It has unsuccessfully tried to refloat it by sliding a chain under the hull.
