Le Cap des Mèdes

At the north-east end of Porquerolles, this site is rich in fixed fauna and fish of all kinds.

At Cap des Mèdes, you'll discover numerous encrusting anemones, groupers, moray eels, corbs and perhaps barracudas. Huge shoals of sars are also common.

The site is quite vast. You can also go to the east face of the rock, to what is known as "La Piscine des Mèdes". This dive does not exceed 30 meters. It's well known for underwater photography (not unlike the nearby "sec du gendarme"). Captain Cousteau filmed an episode here, which featured numerous octopuses.

Les Mèdes is an ideal dive for beginners or for a gentle introduction to diving. The site offers easy anchorage under the pierced rock. It is well sheltered from the Mistral and there is little current on the site. Beware of frequent sailing in summer.
