Gorges du Verdon

The Most Beautiful Canyon in Europe

What is the « Verdon Gorge »?

The Verdon Grand Canyon is considered as the most beautiful and deepest canyon in Europe. Stepping over two departments (“Alpes de Haute Provence” and “Var”), the canyon has been dug by the Verdon river during thousands of years. It is today 50km long with some parts as deep as 700 meters. This unique site is listed as "Grand Site de France". What else could it be for such a jewel?

There are numerous ways to discover the Verdon Gorge. The visitors can admire the spectacular view of the scenic road. The “Point Sublime” is a popular stop to enjoy a breathtaking view over the “Samson Corridor” (a deep cliff) or to start a hike on the “Martel path”.

For those who only have 1-day call, the most interesting part of the Verdon Gorge is around the lake Sainte-Croix. The typical village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, city of Pottery, is a mustsee: What a pleasure to stroll in the narrowed streets filled with shops and cafés! Also, the village of Aiguines is worth a visit because of its view on the lake and its prestigious hilltop castle.
