The Colonial & Military Heritage Tour:

Military history has been an important part of Fréjus past from the time of  Emperor Julius Caesar to today. Fréjus was a land of acclimatation for the colonial troops during the Great War and  remains a land of Memory, commemorating these armies and their origins.This tour provides a comprehensive view of the rich military heritage through wonderful collections of the colonial era. 

  • Start the tour with The Pagoda of Hong-Hien, unique in the Var and the oldest Buddhist temple in France built in 1917 by the Indochinese infantrymen.
  • Continue to the Indochina War Memorial and the National War Necropolis, which presents the history of French Indochina.
  • Then, discover the Black Army Memorial, which presents a magnificent sculpture of inspiration.
  • To complete the tour, visit the Missouri Mosque, located in Caïs military camp, modeled after the Great Mosque of Djenné in Mali. This building is classified as a historical monument.
  • Finish with the visit with the Navy Troops Museum, awarded the Musée de France Label.
