Under the watchful eye of Mont Faron…
Mont Faron is only located a few minutes away from Toulon or La Seyne harbour. The hill - 1,916 feet high - provides a large range of hiking trips (from easy to difficult) that one can also discover while mountain biking or horseback riding. Defensive towers - scattered around its slopes – recall the times the bay & the harbour required protection from potential sea assaults.
The red cable car that connects Toulon to the “Faron‘s peak” will lift you up in less than 10 minutes. From the upper platforms the panorama is breath-taking and speaks for itself: You have indeed called in Europe’s safest bay!
At the top pay a visit to the WWII Provence Landing Memorial, hosted in the Beaumont Tower, an old lady originally from 1845 which has undergone some renovations (the latest one in 2017) to welcome visitors.
Looking for a fully active exploration or to complement your cable car + memorial visit?
There is a short easy walk that leads from the Memorial to the “Croix Radieuse” (Radiating Cross) where one finds a belvedere platform. Horseback riding, mountain biking or hiking are great alternatives to the classic exploration, and while on the tour, you will enjoy stops to take in the views, get familiar to the Mediterranean flora as well as to the traditional leaving in the area.
