Cultural heritage - Sanary-sur-Mer

The organ of Sanary-sur-Mer

The most famous organs in the surrounding cities are almost all of romantic and symphonic construction.

In addition, the choice made for Sanary, in consultation with the Ministry of Culture, is that of French aesthetics with a Provençal touch.

It will offer a maximum of musical possibilities by adopting the principle of resonance, i. e. by using a keyboard that is both manual and pedal.

Indeed, the church - a building 30m long by 14m wide - has an excellent acoustics of 3 to 4 seconds of sound damping. The 7m wide by 3m deep stone grandstand required a corbelled dorsal arrangement, partially in the void.

In addition to a good overall appearance, this arrangement leads to a better distribution of sound in the nave.

Jean-Pierre Decavèle, organist and consulting technician with the Ministry of Culture, conceived the musical and technical project.

The organ was designed and built by organ builder Pascal Quoirin.
It has received funding from the Ministry of Culture, the Provence-Alpes Côte d'Azur Region and the Conseil Général du Var.
