A Cistercian wonder in the heart of the Var’s forest !
Built at the end of the 12th Century, the Thoronet Abbey is one of the “3 Provençal Sisters”. Celebrated by the book “Les Pierres Sauvages”, the church & monastery strongly express the Cistercian idealism, full of simplicity & rigour that St Benoit inspired.
The Abbey of Le Thoronet was built according to an ancestral technique, using cut stone and no mortar. It is a powerful expression of the simplicity and rigor of the Cistercian ideal advocated by Saint Benedict.
Visit at your own pace, with the help of a leaflet or audioguide, in an introductory room.
