Oratories, small monuments found in most of our roadside regions, remain a heritage too little known to the public.
A true testimony to popular art, they generally have the shape of a massive pillar of assembled stones, with a roof with two flat tile slopes, including a round niche housing the statue of a Saint or a Virgin. Present in all French territories, it is nevertheless the Var that counts the most (nearly 800). Sanary has sixteen oratories; the path from the hill that leads to the chapel of Our Lady of Mercy has four oratories, three of which based on 18th century drawings: St Michael's Oratory, St Joseph's Oratory, Sacred Heart Oratory and Notre Dame Oratory.
