HYERES / PORQUEROLLES ISLAND
Gem of the golden island, a paradise on earth
The island has been under the influence of several civilisations (Celt, Greek, Roman) and archaelogical researches brought back to life several of its sites. There are also traces of military architecture e.g. the Fort Agathe built on the ruins of the former castle.
Porquerolles still has a strong agricultural vocation. In the centre, 200 ha of vineyards produce wines of quality. The National Mediterranean Botanical Conservatory grows an important variety of fruit trees. The port is at the heart of the village where you can taste the local gastronomy in restaurants aloung a square bordered by huge trees. This smal part of paradise, fringed by pine and eucalyptus trees, is also popular among cyclists and hikers.
There are more than 54 km of tracks to the lighthouse, the Plaine Notre Dame or the Langoustier side of the Island. You can also enjoy the turquoise waters with white sandy beachezs or abrupt cliffs further to the south.
